"Interesting how Argentinians look down on everyone else and can’t accept any comments that do not agree with their sense of superiority. I’ve met many Argentinians and always wondered why they were so dismissive of everyone else. I would much rather party with our good old Mexican neighbors. Where I’m free to speak my mind without worry. No wonder Nazi crimminals fled to Argentina after WWII. False pride." Thank you for your kind words, Reverv, thank you for assuming that 42 million people think the same way, but that's your excuse to spread your poison and hate, which is despicable. I don't know your nationality, but your comment shows that YOU are what you say We all are. I'm an Argentine, a happy one, I respect people, I don't make generalizations, and it's really weird that a citizen of the USA say what you are saying, Are you sure you are an American? Because it's really unbelievable that a citizen of the USA say what you are saying mmm, anyway, you just wanted to say that we Argentines are bad people, and you said it, unfortunately in Argentina and in Mexico there are people like you. Some Mexicans talk bad about Argentines and some Argentines talk bad about Mexicans. Perhaps, if you change your attitudes and stop blaming 42 million people, people will act different with you. Fortunately, British and Argentines and Americans and Argentines fall in love, and Mexicans and Argentines too, marry each other and live happy lives, without caring about haters.

PS: Not all of us believe that the islands belong to Argentina and not all the British people believe that the islands are British. I do know the islands are British, but what I gain from that are insults from other Argentines, and from some Brits too, who say that I must say the islands belong to Argentina lol haters are everywhere, but I don't let them change my mind into a hater.

I have only met one Argentinean and he was kinda snobby but I think that was cause he was a doctor... I agree with Matt, partially. Stop looking on the negative, and quit thinking that the US is paradise. On the other hand so many tourists from the US are so snobbish that they might need some tips like this, although I doubt it will help them. I am a mixed Mexican-American from the US who lives in Bolivia. I was at an internet cafe when an American came in and started typing on the computer. He was there more than an hour and just before he got done the power went out. Of course he hadn't saved his work. When he realized what happened he started yelling at the owner. I told him to be quiet and stop making Americans look bad, and apologized to the owner for him. I didn't bother to tell him that Word has auto-save. I figured he deserved to type for another hour... :)

I find this article very parcial. It seems you only like to do small talk and you think you are superior to all the countries that are not US. I think the best recomendation for any North American would be to be oppen minded to travel outside your country. All the "never do this or that" you use is strictly for stupid people. You can talk about anything with the right climate and person.

Anyway some of your perseptions are ok, but others are just wrong.

I disagree, I was able to talk to my Argentinean host family when I was studying over there almost about anything. Provided after a few weeks of staying with them. One thing I know one shouldn't say is how cheap it is over there.

All good reasons to stay away from Argentina and focus on other South American countries which are less thin skinned about every subject under the sun, such as Chile and Uruguay, the two safest countries in South America with the highest standards of living.

My visits to Argentina always left me with the thought the country and people are highly overrated....not to mention, but I will, that when it comes to views of the indigenous and mestizo peoples, the Argentines are arguably the worst racists in all of Latin America.

Sr.Petrillo rmakes an interesting point, and unfortunately the etiquette required for acceptance in Argentina is probably applicable throughout the world.

Most people cannot accept criticism. Period. They cannot see it as a healthy force for change, for improving themselves, or the world about them. It seems to be related to intelligence, and political manipulation/indoctrination, [nationalism].

So basically what you're saying is that when in Argentina you should stick strictly to small talk, and don't have anything remotely resembling an intelligent conversation?

This may sound technical, but yerba mate is not full of caffeine. It actually has matein, which is similar to caffeine. The caffeine molecule is present, but is blocked by so many nutrients, that it changes the molecule. This new molecule is known as "matein." Because of the nutrients blocking the caffeine molecule, there are no negative side-effects when drank (jitters, rash, hypertension, etc). Yerba mate does rev up the adrenaline, causing the "awake and alert" feeling. So, caffeine and matein are related, but are not exactly the same.
