Hi Susan,

I enjoyed reading your article about investing abroad for less than US$150,000.

Would your readers be interested in my property in Australia ? US$132,000.
I'm a private owner and don't have a website. Can't attach a photo to this comment box, but photo available.

Property is in North Queensland. Nearby destinations are Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef.
US$132,000 is about as cheap as it gets in Australia.

The property is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom unit in a block of 8 units. We own all 8. Price negotiable for purchase of more than 1 unit.

Extremely high demand for rental in this town. Rent is approx US$780.00 per month. Always rented and on 6 month or 12 month leases. Or you could live in it yourself.

Happy to send photos or more info to anyone asking: maria7343@gmail.com

Regards, Maria

Sometimes it is even cheaper to buy land in another country and build it yourself, or in some cases hire a local contractor to build it for you.

These all sound like ok deals, but what about the risks? There are people I've known who bought abroad, then had the title stolen out from under them. Essentially, the purchased a property with their own hard-earned money and the property ended up in the hands of the local.

Like others I think this sounds like cut and paste real estate ads, One can find better values if they go and hang out for awhaile and see if you really like the place in the low season. Everyone know the high season is great, that's why they call it High Season.
Regarding France, the weatherin the north really sucks, Try the Med coast south of Montpillier. great values and mild weather. Two thing I look for the most. Did I say very low taxes too. Our total tax nut is under 2,000 euros for a 130m2 Apt in the historic distric of the centre ville of Narbonne.

I have been reading Escape from America for several years, and I find some very useful information and some entertaining articles. I have lived in Manila for seven years, am now a permanent resident of the Philippines, and have no particular plans to relocate. I pay a considerable amount of money (but much less than in a major American city) for a luxury apartment in Makati - the quiet part of Makati, but within walking distance of all the activity I could possibly want.

Whom is your advice for? I am a New Yorker who grew up going to Broadway theaters and Greenwich Village coffee houses. I carefully chose my college(s) and graduate school(s) to be in major urban areas. You suggest that I move to Invercargill, NZ, to save money?

I sometimes get similar advice from Filipinos: "Go to --- and you can find a big house for much less than you are paying." I reply, "But whom would I talk to?"

It seems that this information was captured from ads around the world, but as you may well know, ads are often wrong, deceiving, or plain false. For instance, I'm leaving in Argentina now and have been looking around Tigre. For my research, properties in Tigre of the characteristics listed in the article that are located in semi-decent decent areas do not go below the three hundred thousand dollar range. Best regards.

Oh, New Zealanders are not going to be pleased with you suggesting that they are an adjunct to Australia ("rather than heading for mainland Australia...") -- New Zealand is an independent and completely separate country!
