It is the affect of years and years of oppresion from right wing, corrupt administrations that basically only look out for their own personal interests. But Ecuador is VERY laid back, as well as the people...and is very American friendly and capitalist. Like anywhere there are risks, but Ecuador has respected individual property ownership and does not show any signs in changing that. All of Latin America is trending strongly towards socialism.
