Your writer should be aware that Kaiser Permanente in Northern California is well advanced toward the goal of digitized and networked medical systems. My medical history for the past 20 years has been digitized. Doctors no longer need to access paper files except in extraordinary circumstances. I have on-line access to pharmacies, test results, doctors via e-mail, making appointments, etc. Finally, because I'm going on an overseas trip, I have been provided with a flash drive containing my medical record in PDF format, and this for only five dollars. I'm impressed! I believe that Kaiser Permanente will save large amounts of money and professional time having implemented this integrated medical system. [I'm not associated with Kaiser Permanente except as a member patient.]
