Hi Folks,

This is Andy from Bombay (Mumbai). Most of the people here are Hindus but we are a mix of all religion ... Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christanity etc. Since Christians and Muslims are good in number Christmas and Id respectively are also celebrated on a large scale. Hindus are also seen visiting the church on 25th Dec. Beside, the ambience is really wonderful during christmas .... People decorate their offices really well .. you may also see peope working with the Santa's cap on 24th ( 25th is observered as a Holiday in India too ). From 26th the catholic guys start bringing the christmas cake and other home made snacks for the team in office ... Wow!! those snacks taste really good.

In Bombay, places like Bandra, Mahim, Santacruz, Borivili (IC Colony), Vasai etc you can clearly sense the arrival of christmas since these areas are heavily populated by Catholics Christians ...

Christian crowd usually ask for leaves from the offices on 24th since they have to get ready to celebrate 25th & attend the mid night mass .... Families invite their cousins, uncle, aunties, friends on 25th and try to spend a joyful day. Young crowd go to watch movies and have fun with their friends in Restaurants, freak out places etc.

As soon as the Christmas celebrations get over people start getting preparted to Welcome the NY ... Once we move on to the next year ... Jan-July would be hardcore business months with not much of festivals ... From Aug again the Indian Festive season kick starts ..

You can appproach me on andythepunter@ymail.com if you got to know more about India :-)
Tc and God Bless :o)

Christmas in Bangkok is generally festive. Although the actual Thai New Year Celebration (called Songkran) is not until mid April, the Thais accept the holiday season as there are so many expats living here. The Chinese New Year falls in mid January and is also celebrated due to the fact that most Thais (Asians in General) are of Chinese decsent. Fortunately for the Thais, they are allowed leave from work for all three New Years'.
The malls here start putting up sme serious Christmas decorations (not so serious as Orchard Rd in Singapore). in December. And canned holiday music is played throughout the season.
Some expat eateries will have that "traditional" holiday buffet. For those of us who cannot make the trip to Grandma Irene's house for her homemade Egg Nog, Fruitcake, cookies, and Mince Meat Pies.
This year for some reason I am suffering from pangs of missing out on a real "white Christmas". Probably as i am from the mountains of Colorado.
To all expats abroad: Have a wonderful, joyous, and festive holiday season. wherever you may be. And whomever you are celebrating it with!!!!
