This is not a comment on your article. I just want to say that I am Irish, born and grew up there, and know Navan pretty well, it being a "furniture manufacturing" town, and neccessary for my business.

What I'm trying to say is that I've never heard of an Irish name like McGoona, and I'm anything but stupid and un-noticing.

Hi,
I really enjoyed reading Ann's short but sad story and it brought back a lot of very happy childhood memories of Winter in Ireland and Christmas past. May her gentle soul continue in peaceful rest.
Unfortunately Ireland of the Celtic Tiger era brought a lot of ugly change and a 'terrible beauty was born' of greed and temporary insanity. I say temporary as the Celtic Tiger era was short lived and this new down turn in our economy, might, just might, bring us back to our senses and the way we used to be in Ann's time. Continue the good work, Tom, and best wishes to you and yours for Christmas 2009 and every best wish for good health and happiness in the New Year of 2010. Best regards,JohnT.
