What planet are you on re medical care in Ireland? It is scarily difficult to access, with long waiting lists, overcrowded hospital facilities, over-subscribed specialists, and in my opinion, often poor standards of care. It does not hold a candle to decent insurance-based care in the US and anyone who is entitled to treatment in the UK goes there if they can. This is not to say that there are not good doctors in Ireland. There are. But they have to function in a system which everyone in Ireland will admit has crippling problems. Retirees, with associated age-related risks of stroke and cardio-vascular events would be well advised to think carefully about how close that cottage on Lough Ramor is to a decent emergency room. And be prepared for a lot of people in the queue before you when you get there.
