Could this article be more politically one sided? Wonder where this guy plans to "escape" to in the modern world that would fit into his idea of a capitalist, utopian, republic? The main problem we face is that the rest of the free world views our most left wing ideas as right of center. Believe me, selling insurance(by any definition a socialist practice) doesn't pay the bills in Costa Rica...better learn a real trade. Remember tradesmen America? The people we rely on to install our electrcal and fire protection systems, construct our buildings so they are safe for us to inhabit, and make the lives of paper pushers generally pleasant and without fear of the elements? Why do these people make less than regional Taco Bell managers? Hmm..

For those who disagree with th socialist comment....Insurance is a social tool that takes money from all, and distributes it to those that need. What does that sound like to you?

The thoughts of Mr. Brown regarding the direction of our economy give voice to my thoughts exactly, thoughts that have been building for a good number of years.

We are not experiencing the typical cyclical ups and downs of an economy. We have lost our manufacturing base, deservedly - foreigners always have been making superior products. ( cars-who can better a Honda; guns-Why did Glock create the superior polimer hand gun. And on, and on, and on. ) It follows, logically that a foreign country could be making a better Boeing 747.

With a vanishing manufacturing sector, the U.S. has been able to sustain its GDP by inflating the financial segment of our economy (which produces nothing you can eat, nothing you can drive in, nothing you can wear to keep out the cold, and on and on.). And, the financial sector has become a glorified gambling casino where the directors are paid exorbitant commissions FOR MAKING THE BETS regardless or whether the bets pay off. If the bets fail, the U.S. public picks up the tab.

I too am looking for a country to move to. I have already spent two months in Mexico. I use to live in Brazil. That country has become a real beacon of the future. It's a trove of raw materials which China needs. They have developed a country wide biofuels industry, based on sugar cane. And, in addition, have discovered huge offshore oil reserves. Their currency is stable and the majority of their population is made up of Europeans. ((This sounds like the beginning of a New United States.))
Maybe THEY will GET IT RIGHT.

Continuing a recent trend in this publication, here is another poorly written political article that has almost nothing to do with escaping from America. I agree with quite a bit of the sentiment behind the article (like government being too large and wasteful), but have problems with several of the "facts" and implications.

Amtrak deserves to be saved, whether as a public or private enterprise. Trains can be extremely efficient, as we can see in other countries. The subsidies Amtrak receives are nothing compared to the massive subsidies given to automotive and truck transport over the years. How many billions do we spend just on highway maintenance each year? (Answer: about 100 times as much as we spend on Amtrak.) Stop subsidizing cars, trucks, and planes first, then let's see if passenger train systems can be profitable.

On health care and illegal aliens: Last I heard they were excluded from receiving any government subsidies, although they were not prohibited from buying their own insurance. Just like they are not excluded from buying bread at the market. I am no fan of illegal aliens, but let's keep the debate honest.

And who is proposing "free" healthcare? Even the supposedly far-left "public option" only granted everyone the right to buy health care coverage. The idea of free coverage for everyone was never even debated.

The whole article comes across as rabidly anti-Obama, when in reality he is pretty moderate. Many of his deficit-increasing initiatives are simply the same ones that Bush started, which are an attempt (probably ill-advised) to clean up his mess. And where is the outrage at all the money Bush wasted in his two wars, and huge corporate handouts? Why are only Democrats chastised, when Republicans have fully participated in most of the problems?

interesting how the illegal immigrants and workers are the root cause of our evils, when it seems that if those lazy mexicans went back where they came from the economy of many areas would fail overnite, because really none of the middle class knows how to actually work. Our society has forgotten what work is, lifes problems are not solved by a keyboard, the food we eat every day is not really from safeway, generating 5 more pieces of paper trail a day does not prove your neccessity. The millions of fat ,spoiled ,lazy, people we see each day speak volumes about the society we have become. The examples of heroes that we are" exposed " to each day
points to a series of generations that have progressively become less self sufficient, less educated, less motivated, more demanding, more ignorant, and more willing to make more puppies. In the rush to achieve the American dream , we have all contributed to the failure of our own society. Stop blaming and pointing at the blameless of society , when it is the greed and entitlement of ourselves that we have encouraged with each successive generation. The american way may have become the wrong way, or have been twisted to fit the whims of the fat cats.
get off our butts, pick up the broom, learn how to work, learn how to look after yourself, give a hand when needed, teach respect, give respect, spend wisely, be an asset to the earth.

Once again, this magazine has published an article that has NOTHING to do with the expatriate experience. I do not understand who is responsible for this or why it keeps happening. If I want to read this viewpoint there are PLENTY of places in which I can do so-it's hardly revolutionary or unique. I subscribe to this e-magazine to get viewpoints and experiences I have no exposure to.

In my opinion anyone who intentionally makes false or misleading statement should "always" be suspected of doing this. JT's #1 rule.

The author insinuates he's an expert in in health care. What I see is someone who almost ruined his business 25 years ago when he dabbled in it. Who do you want for financial ad vice Donald Trump or or the homeless guy that can figure out how to support himself? How many other things has he failed at that he's giving advice on?

This author tries to mislead you by starting out listing Republican activities that he's alarmed by and then insinuates that its the Democrats that are responsible. Falling short of claiming Oboma started the war in Iraq, but that's more I think so the author could get some flag waving credit out of 9/11, applied to his credibility.
Well if one quotes unrelated syfy tv, just to gab attention to their article, it just goes to knowing the caliber of the person authoring such articles. Maybe next time a golden ticket and a chocolate factory that employs immigrants.

Another is that us tax payers should be offended that the 50 percent (so he claims) non tax payers aren't paying. Well look at who most of them are: old people on social security, unemployed, dirt poor people, oh and children. Yes we should be squeezing taxes out of them. Waite we are: sales tax, excise tax, property tax, etc., and if they pay a fee, they can even use their own national parks! I guess we're on the right track after all!
I am offended that there are very wealthy people, who pay little or no taxes because politicians accept money and favors; in return they provide the loopholes that these people use to avoid taxes. Note the author, by omission, is apparently unaware of this situation or in favor of it (you guess which).

This author insinuates China is the Federal Government's banker. Yah sure.

"Illegal immigrants don't pay taxes" wrong! If an employer can't claim them as an expense, then they paid the taxes on that money. Unless your saying crime organizations are the main employer. Illegal immigrants work at the shit jobs, putting in far more hours a week then citizens, at often half minimum wage. If these were citizens, they would not earn enough to justify paying taxes, their employers would be paying them over twice as much and deducting that money as a business expense. This could drop fed tax revenue by 50 billion or more not increase it. Money that can be given to bankers, car manufactures, and other big corporations that will generously show their appreciation to politicians in congress. This author is alarmed that these slaves and their children living in abject poverty might get treated humanly.

So many more misleading statements through out this article, lead me to believe little of anything this author infer as facts, are nothing more then statements meant to play on the predigest of a target audience and would not stand up to carful scrutiny.

Deadon article!.......One thing about medicare should be mentioned that it will not pay foreign claims due to too "much corruption abroad"........Instead medicare only pays for our totally "corruption and wastefree" US medical care where it is estimated that 60 billion $ is lost annually.....A recent investigation in florida uncovered tens of millions of fraud including billings from doctors long dead!.......Thank the AMA for this one!........I am with you all the way as I hope to retire overseas soon also !....I will make one last point which the great late journalist Robert Novak said, "Love your country but do not trust your government"
