Great article Susan, I have been thinking about getting a second passport for some time, with countries like Brazil, Bolivia, and China (all places I want to go) tightening their restrictions on American visitors, I have been exploring getting an Italian passport.

I have discovered that the process is relatively straightforward if one of your parents or grandFATHER was born in Italy, if your grandmother was born there it is more difficult.

It all starts with getting hold of your relatives birth (and death) certificates. A birth certificate can be attained by going to the town the relative was born in the foreign country and ask for it.

It is still not easy to obtain via email or through the net unfortunately.
