As soon as I read about aquaponics systems I thought they would be great for restaurants. However the claim that cold water fish are incompatible may be true for that specific set up, but I think there should be some ‘do it yourself’ solution to put some variety in the fish stock. I’m thinking either utilizing outdoor air circulation, fertilizer heat, or solar power. Particularly if the location is in a warmer area the issue of “too cold” water won’t be a problem and solar energy could be used to power the pumps. I’ve also found people use kitchen leftovers to grow fly larvae and then feed fish the larvae, ideally someone might be able to create a much more efficient and cyclical system.
