Traveling Russian Roulette is a Lot of Fun

Travel has risks, are you covered?

Travel without proper insurance and you could be playing Russian roulette with your finances!

Traveling nowadays is a far cry from what it was a decade ago. Today you will encounter many challenges and inconveniences from state-of-the-art-machinery, high tech gadgets to immediate announcements for cancelled flights, missing baggage and the charming personalities of government TSA workers. What is not usually considered is the bad luck that can be encountered during travel such as sudden sickness and accidents.  Climates change rapidly, outbreaks happen and your body simply may not be accustomed to the bacterium that is common in other countries. You do not know when or where you will have a reaction or when you will be hospitalized in a foreign country.

This is why there is a need to secure travel health insurance for your own benefit, for the company you are working, and your family who could be greatly affected by such an occurrence. Travel without proper insurance and you could be playing Russian roulette with your finances!

The point is, traveling internationally can be fun for the prepared and disastrous for the unprepared. When you are getting ready to take that long awaited hunting trip to Argentina or business trip to Singapore and you are pondering the need for travel insurance and whether you need to purchase travel insurance or not. Deciding against travel insurance could mean the difference between having peace of mind and having a nightmare vacation or business trip. The reason most people do not choose travel insurance is because they do not think the duration of the trip justifies the expense or that they are covered by their credit card. Both of these are excuses that could mean hours of haggling with the credit card company or wiping out your personal savings due to uncovered medical expenses.

What is Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance covers the gamut of protection and is presented in many comprehensive packages and are often provided when you purchase a ticket. But consider what you are buying very closely.  Good quality travel insurance provides peace of mind and protection against loss of your valuables. Free insurance can have more exclusion and limitations than you bargained for. You can buy travel insurance for long trips and last minute trips very quickly. The choice is yours, but consider why you might want to incur the expense of the added protection:

  • Flight cancellation
  • Medical emergency
  • Lost luggage
  • Protection against inclement weather, natural disasters and terrorist incidents
  • Airline bankruptcy
  • Stolen passports
  • Evacuations

There are lots of benefits you get from travel insurance most especially if you travel a lot, whether it be from your work requirement or from your personal business or just to have it for safety purposes. As we all know, traveling in any foreign country or anywhere around the world deals with lots of uncertainty and risks. Why, for starters, you do not know who you will be talking with, all of them are foreign to you, especially if you will be first time for you in such country or place, or if you are not used to traveling much and you are not a frequent traveler.

When purchasing your travel insurance you will want to ask yourself some questions regarding the nature of your trip and what you may or may not be covered for.

  • Will I be participating in any hazardous activities on my trip?
  • Do I have any (serious) pre-existing medical conditions?
  • How much coverage am I going to get?
  • What are the policy’s exclusion?
  • Is customer service provided 24/7?

The amount of actual coverage needed is really up to you, and how much value you place on your material possessions and services. The main points you will want to keep in mind are personal liability, baggage protection, medical coverage and cash coverage.
