America’s Shrinking Talent Pool – Join the Talented Exodus
The deep biting global recession has taken its toll…..
The US may be leading the way in forging a way ahead, whilst international allies, especially those in Europe, are still coming to terms with the devastation caused by the 2008 banking crisis.
But leading the way doesn’t mean no pain for those left to pay the bills for decades to come. Someone has to pay the price for the excesses of the previous decade – and it’s going to land firmly at the feet of the American taxpayer.
Any its’ not just financial, many American workers are looking abroad to escape the emotional and psychological gloom gripping many workplaces.
It doesn’t have to be like that – you can Escape from America and realize your Escapeartist Dreams with our NEW and IMPROVED jobs section.
Facing such a bleak outlook, many that can are looking abroad to see what opportunities exist beyond Americas 50 states. The highly-paid, highly-skilled and highly-taxed workforce are among the first to consider packing their bags for a more lucrative challenge overseas – and potentially a better quality of life.
And here’s the crunch…
A Vicious Circle
The more talent that leaves the US, the more that those left behind will have to pick up the tab. Those left behind then begin to look at their options – and the American talent drain becomes a vicious circle and it’s a problem being replicated in many westernised nations.
Employees burdened by higher taxes are increasingly looking internationally for an escape route. It’s not just the workers. Companies are busy packing their bags and opening satellite offices in more tax beneficial jurisdictions – so they can retain their staff!
Problems of shrinking pool
And that’s going to cause problems for
In the 21st Century where the world is a small place, workplaces are becoming decentralised and many people can live and work from anywhere. If you skill-set allows, why stay behind when everyone else grasps the benefits of overseas living.
There are many reasons to move:
Cost of Living
Quality of Life
Quality of Life
Taxes
Climate
Spirit of Discovery!
Steve McIntosh, CEO of CML Offshore Recruitment, the world’s largest offshore recruitment agency, has lived in the Cayman Islands for 7 years.
“I moved here to ……..
Reduce my taxes
Being an American you can never quite escape the taxman – but you can minimise your taxes. Talking to your accountant is always a smart move before considering a move away.
Enjoy the climate
This is the most-often-cited reason expats give for making the big leap and looking for an international job. For many it is more important than money. For some reason the world seems a better place when you wake up for work on a tropical island with the sun shining and ….. But it’s not always so clear cut. Often the places with the idyllic climate have an equally mean side like the monsoons and typhoons of Asia and the hurricanes of the Caribbean.
Embrace the spirit of discovery!
Traditionally the reason to take an international job has been to see the world. Increased globalization may be changing the picture, but the spirit of discovery is still there. New places, new things, new sights & new sounds. Moving abroad can be exciting and exhilarating. There’s so much to experience in the world and what better way than to get out…Leave the fear behind and go international!
Leverage the cost of living
America might not be the most expensive place to live – but is sometimes feels like it! Hi rents, hi gas costs … The relevancy of the cost of living is difficult, perhaps quality of life is better. For people looking to retire abroad, the cost of living can be a critical factor. And it is one which makes many Asian and South American countries attractive. Overseas income, in their case pensions, goes a lot further in local currency. But when you’re working locally you’ll earn a local wage. It may be a high local wage to reflect a skill set not available in the indigenous population – think of the offshore financial services industry. If you earn a good salary and pay low taxes then to some degree your cost of living is irrelevant.
What to do?
Whatever your occupation there’s bound to be something available to suit your whims and qualifications. Professionals, such as lawyers and accountants, often flock to the highly-paid low-tax offshore jurisdictions such as the Caribbean, South East Asia and the Channel Islands.
Teaching is by far the most popular overseas job of choice which a host of positions available to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) Also nannies, housekeepers, engineers, marketers – pretty much every occupation is in demand somewhere in the world.

This is a great idea to make it easier for people to look for work abroad. Many, many people would like to move, but they have no idea on where to start.
Also, because of the lack of information out there, many people “go for it”, and by the time they figure out the right route to take, they are out of finances and end up moving back home.
You ask what articles we would like to see – I would love something comprehensive on what countries offer excellent medical care, and which countries offer inexpensive yet quality medical care. Or even just articles on one country at a time that offer this, how it works there.
Karen, be sure to check out our new Medical Tourism section http://medicaltourism.escapeartist.com we will be adding a lot of new information in the near future.
