Read The Escape Artist Interview With Michael Manville:

EA: So what was your motivation to hit the road for 180 days?

Michael: Well, I wanted to see if I could live a better life overseas. I was finding myself overwhelmed with the changes that have taken place over the last several years. High costs, traffic, stress, pollution, a broken medical and health care system… I was tired of the go-go society, I needed a change.

EA: What do you mean by a “better life overseas”?

Michael: More freedom, healthier, friendlier, warmer, cheaper. I was also interested in finding better work and business opportunities…. better wealth creation opportunities. For many of us, the US and Canada – even Europe – are so full of materialism, consumerism, and every kind of “ism” you don’t want ism… I decided I needed to hit the road and find out for myself which places I liked the best.

EA: What were some of the most interesting places you traveled to?

Michael: I covered six different countries… it was a mix of big cities and small towns. I looked at everything from high-end beach resort communities, to tiny fishing and surfing villages with hardly any tourists.

I looked at coffee estates, vineyard estates, horse ranches, and fruit farms… I looked at a lot of beach condos and golf communities. I looked at old historical neighborhoods and artsy communities in some of the big cities. I fell in love with a river ranch… I covered a lot of ground. I took photos and video clips of everything I saw.

EA: How did you report back to your fans?

Michael: I created 36 different letters – “post cards” you could call them – as I moved from place to place. Each post card was published online with a series of photos, videos and descriptions of each location and every thing I was seeing and doing. Now I’m compiling a series of in-depth reports based on the deeper research I conducted about the countries I liked the best.

EA: What was the highlight of your journey?

Michael: Too many to mention… probably the beach I mistakenly discovered in Ecuador with a local guy, the views were out of this world. That, and the four seater plane ride to an exotic island off the Pacific Coast of Panama!

EA: So what did you learn? What were your favorite places?

Michael: Well, every place has its own feel… its own community… it’s own spirit. It was pretty exciting. I’ve organized my post cards so that anyone can follow the journey from Day 1 and learn about all of the places I went and experiences I had. I’ll email it to anyone who is interested… they’ll get a new post card every five days.

EA: Great! Well, thanks a lot for your time today Michael.

  1. Michael,

Too bad the article was just a tease and he didn’t answer a one of your questions. Makes me leery, as this world is too much full of teasers making money off the rest of us. Honest work for an honest dollar. Sell an idea honestly — write an article that legitimately intrigues readers enough to follow, and just sell the details later if you have to. (Newspaper travel articles are at least subject to oversight/scrutiny and feedback, and those authors sell their books and articles and tours. This interview seemed a scam.)

Authors who keep dropping breadcrumbs are no better than speculators who bled us all and gave themselves bonuses slaps on the back for snookering us again. Hint: drop the infomercial approach that soured so many of us. Marketing and hype belong in the USA rat race/treadmill; leave it there. Most of the readers of this newsletter have been around the block too many times. Respect us, please, editors.

  3. Strumpsky, i totally agree with you…
