Lee Vosburgh grew up in Manhasset, New York and both he and his lovely wife Meredith were making a lucrative living as a Wall Street stock broker with the brokerage house of Canter Fitzgerald and she with Blue Bay Asset Management. As an avid surfer and water sports enthusiast from Montauk Point, Lee often traveled in his search for better, warmer waves in exotic destinations. In 1990 on one such trip he found himself in Mexico and eventually ended up in Los Cabos, Baja Sur. He fell in love with the place and so did Meredith. Both had a desire to follow their passion for the outdoors and hospitality and Meredith has a degree in resort management and a master’s degree in P.E. So it was not long before they began considering a lifestyle change and thinking about their choice for a new home, a place where they could get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
After several trips to Cabo and experiencing the many beautiful attractions and sights of the place it was not a hard choice to make; both Lee and Meredith loved Mexico and Cabo San Lucas was their obvious choice. They both saw the many potential opportunities at hand and the growth that the area was experiencing. Before long Lee had brought together a group of investors to partner up with and was soon on his way to Cabo with a tremendous group of partners set out to make their dream a reality. With a love of Baja and a desire to pursue resort development, Cabo was the natural location: The group of partners became the Medano Investment Group and the opportunity soon presented itself in the form of the acquisition of the Bahia Hotel. A property in such a prime location right on top of the hill overlooking what is now called Medano Beach; it was prime real estate. The price was right so we bought it. That was back in 2007 and Lee, Meredith and the other 8 partners soon found themselves in the hotel business right smack in the middle of one of the most promising Tourism Developments in the world.
Lee was to be the on site manager of the property along with the Hotel management expertise of his wife, an easy choice to make since they had both previously agreed to move to Cabo. They had made a choice to remodel the hotel with a design philosophy a little out of the box from the rest of the hotels in the area. The Bahia Hotel is a Boutique Hotel with an upbeat décor with a feels of the posh atmosphere of Manhattan, San Francisco or LA but with the unequivocal flavor of Mexico. They also created the Cabo’s newest first-class restaurant, Bar Esquina; it features a unique twist on International creative cuisine: Mexican influenced Mediterranean flavors using locally grown, organic produce; fresh fish from the Pacific & Sea of Cortez; and the highest quality meats cooked on a mesquite grill. Bar Esquina is quickly becoming one of the finest Restaurants in Cabo; a fun classy place with plenty of atmosphere and ambiance that has become the place of choice and hang out for the local affluent community of Los Cabos as well as those looking for a great place to hang out, dress up (your choice) and meet interesting people.
The Bahia Hotel and Beach Club has become THE hang out for the beach loving crowd. Providing a home base for Surf and SUP (Stand Up Paddle) tours out to the East Cape world class wave spots and featuring visiting World Class Athletes that come to conduct sporting clinics and teaching to guests and special groups that include the many other fun activities that can be practiced out in front in the Bay of Cabo San Lucas and Medano beach and other areas of the Cape. So now Lee is really living his Los Cabos dream in addition to his daily hotel management responsibilities, he now can spend his days teaching guests SUP and socializing with them in the bar at night….As Lee often says;
“A lifestyle hotel is about service and understanding the customer…I was that customer so I get it…. “We do it, so we know how to offer the product and service that our customers expect……”
“Our secret has been to work together and become part of the business and local community and collaborate with the local government and authorities, other hotels, political influences in the area to create a Seaside Pedestrian community destination within a destination. We are the first Urban W style Hotel in Cabo; it is what made the difference in our business model and what is making us a successful enterprise in Cabo. The negative publicity that is often cast upon Mexico by some media outlets are in large part perpetrated by those that do not take the time and effort to investigate and really see what truly is going on in Mexico. In spite of all the bad press Mexico is surviving and still the fun and attractive place it has always been, a beautiful, fun place with its own unique flavors, sights, experiences and its people, just south of the border”. “As I like to often say about our own Mexican experience;” “We came for the place but stayed for the people.”
