The world is spinning out of control….it seems like there is nothing but bad news out there. We have been let down by our elected officials as much as by the corporations who only measure progress in units sold. “Life-time value” is now the goal – the amount that can be extracted from an individual through selling him/her products over the course of their life. So this article is about extraction – extracting yourself from systems that keep you in place, keep you chained down by debt and dumbed down by media.
So ask yourself – do you really need a TV and constant fear in your life? Would you not rather lower your cost of living by at least half? Reclaim your own time by working from home? Spend more time being active with kids and the wife? Be in a place where your dollar buys 1.6 times its value and the cost of food is about half?
Let’s look at the following: If you are 45 years or over, you can legally reside in the Fiji Islands if you make an investment of F$100,000 (about US$60K) by buying land or a home. This initial investment can even be financed at 10% down, and you can still qualify to stay here year-round.
For those of you that have some money stashed away, use it while it is still worth something – the devaluation is coming as sure as the currency loss is already here. Buy some property abroad. For those of you who don’t have enough yet, make a deposit and get your foot in the door. The time where wealth will be measured by having your own piece of land where you can grow some food is approaching rapidly.
Today there are a myriad of jobs you can do over the Internet, and if you are retired, US social security can be paid to you in any country of residence you may choose. So my suggestion is: If you have a brick and mortar job, see if you can change careers or modify your work in a way that you can do it online. A lot of employers would be happy to accommodate you. Break free. But make it easy for you – choose an English-speaking country that is safe, without guns or high rates of violent crime, and one that is technologically advanced enough to support you still making an income from abroad. Fiji is that place.
We are looking at an unprecedented change in our lifestyles within the next 25 years. Financial collapse, environmental degradation, overpopulation (we are adding 3.5 Billion people until 2050), and further continued growth of the gap between rich and poor. Where you will be will largely determine the quality of life you will live – ask yourself today if you want to be in a country that has the largest inequality between rich and poor in the Western World, that spends more on arms than all other countries combined, that fails in Health Care, Education and Safety of roads and infrastructure when compared to most other industrialized nations? Where healthy food is either too expensive or simply not available? Where Health Care is so expensive it is becoming out of reach for the average wage earner? Where you have to work until you are 72 to get Social Security?
Or, would you rather be in a country where family and tradition still matter, where food is cheap and locally grown, where guns are outlawed and you can have sunny weather year-round? While we don’t have some of the conveniences of modern western life, ask yourself, how much do you really need? How much WalMart, StarBucks and Pizza Hut does anyone need? How many TV channels?
You can retire in Fiji much earlier and for much less than in the US, so I strongly suggest looking at relocation as a valid alternative.
