Nightlife in Medellin Part 1
Night life in Medellin can be quite the extraordinaire. Here we will explore in depth detail Parque Lleras, La Strada, Rio Sur, Barrio Colombia and event agencies.
General Factors to consider
Night life in Medellin can offer you a wide array of options. However, it is important to remember 4 things: weather, puentes, quincenas and university breaks.
It is important to keep in mind the changes of weather. For example, when it rains girls tend not to go out as they do not want to damage their hair. Usually if it begins raining before night comes, most people will tend to cancel and hold off for another day.
“Puentes” or three day weekends are national holidays. The reason that the “puentes” fall on Mondays is because the law switches on purpose any holiday that occurs during the week to fall on a Monday. This then allows the Colombians to enjoy a 3 day weekend.
Qunicenas which are pay days for most Colombians, quincena meaning be paid on every 15th and 30th of is where people have their pockets full and generally tend to spend it on the crazy night life and having a good time
During university spring break most students and their families tend to travel and visit other family members, which then cause the city life to slow down.
Parque lleras is by far the most popular area for foreigners to go out and enjoy a night full of drinking and partying with people from all different backgrounds. Each street is jam packed with restaurants, bars, pubs and discotecas. All sorts of music can be found at these places from your typical Latin dances such as salsa to crossover music, reggaeton and even 90’s American rock. It is typical to see a lot of girls and the wealthier class. This is a perfect opportunity to mingle and become more immersed. When taking a stroll through the park you will quickly identify the places which most appeal to you. It is important to keep in mind that the drinks are somewhat expensive and that many clubs/discotecas charge a cover fee. For those looking to wander and party around in a fun zone while enjoying the sight of beautiful women, dancing and meeting others; Parque Lleras is the place for you.
La Strada has 16 restaurants, 1 hotel, 15 bars, 3 nightclubs and a casino. Many people visiting Medellin, never get the opportunity to explore La Strada since it is somewhat more hidden in Poblado. This atmosphere offers an indoor type, more elegant sense of partying, unlike Lleras where you are outside. You will find more professional people and the biggest concentration of gorgeous women. The DRY Martini Bar is a bar/restaurant and is specialized in Martinis and high quality cocktails. They also have a focus on Mediterranean food. This is a perfect place to have corporate events or private parties. For those who like a good bottle of wine, delicacy snacks and a fun cozy environment to share time with friends, D’VERANO Wine Bar is the place to be. It has a wide selection of good tasting wines and the positive side to it all is that you can order by the glass, not an entire bottle. Aqua Night Life club is high class elegant dance club with a cover charge of around $10USD. This is a bicultural atmosphere where high class people from the ages of 21and up come to dance, drink and party until the morning.
Rio Sur is a relatively new shopping center that was built in 2011. Here you can find a plethora of restaurants, stores and bars. At night this shopping mall center becomes the attraction for those looking for a stylish high class environment without all the crazy loud music. Here is the perfect place to congregate with close group of friends or even that special one. Chili Martinis is a bar and grill that offers a nice, warm and tranquil atmosphere that allows you to meet, chat and enjoy the delicious Mexican food and drinks while listening to Jazz, Lounge and Pop.
Barrio Colombia is the place to go after 12:00am. Here you can expect to party and dance hardcore in all the discotecas until 4 or 5 o’clock in the morning. Loud music, noise and lots of craziness can be excpected in these areas. In some of these discotecas like in others found in La Strada there are specific dress codes. There are VIP areas or minimum consumption requirements which are fed directly into the price, for example a bottle of whiskey which may cost $100.00USD or more. Another thing to keep in mind is that girls almost always enter for free and guys normally have to pay the cover charge which can be around $10USD on average. The discotecas which include a lot of reggaeton and electronic music include Luxury Discoteca, Karma, and The End. The discotecas that offer more crossover music is Amarna Unica, Indiana Bar, Triologia Bar (Live band), Mia VIP Room and Tutaina Tuturama. There is an agency called Good Vibes that hosts special event planning that allows everyone to interact and socialize and not be segregated by their groups. This agency can get you into these discotecas for great prices and even VIP, as well as get you entrance to special events and private parties.
