Our friends at GoodMigrationswebsite put out customer reviews of their experiences with moving companies. So many of us nowadays would not think of booking a hotel without checking Trip Advisor – so why wouldn’t we want the inside scoop when it comes to entrusting someone with moving all of our personal belongings overseas? Help the global expat community find and use trustworthy moving companies. Submit your review form with your opinion, good or bad, on whichever moving company you have used in the past. One of our readers who fills out a review before March 31, 2013 will win $150USD!
After the frustrations my wife and I encountered trying to find a reputable international mover for our relocation from New York City to Sydney, Australia, we created GoodMigrations as a place to collect real customer reviews of international movers. Our goal is to help people moving abroad easily figure out who the reputable moving companies are.
Since we started the site, we’ve gotten reviews detailing a whole range of different experiences. Here’s a sampling:
“I had to keep my belongings in storage for longer than the initially predicted two weeks. The movers were very understanding and didn’t make me pay for the extra time.” -Lea, who moved from the United Kingdom to China
“Excellent service and no damage.” -Evan, who moved from Portugal to Switzerland
“I have nothing but good things to say. Everything was straightforward — they showed up exactly when they said they would, the final bill was exactly what the quote was, our stuff arrived in Norway exactly when it was supposed to (to the day, I think!), and not one thing broke.” -Mike, who moved from the U.S. to Norway
“It did take much longer than I had anticipated considering I was paying for air freight. They were also slow to pick up the items from Canada. But it all got here in one piece, to my door, in the end.” -Allison, who moved from Canada to the United Arab Emirates
“The quote was much higher than quoted, and the company was unable to substantiate the reasons why it was so much higher.” -Teresa, who moved from the U.S. to Australia
And the ugly…
“My main complaint was that the quote I received was nowhere near the price they charged me, even though I was very precise in detailing the amount of furniture I had to move. I did not expect the quote to be exact, but the price ended up being over by almost half of the price I was quoted. Furthermore, they could not tell me where the extra charge was coming from since I did not forget one item. To add to my frustration the customer service was horrendous. The manager was conveniently ‘out of the office’ every time I called to discuss the charge. I ended up having to drop the matter because every day I waited for the manager to ‘call me back’ they refused to deliver my stuff. I finally paid the charge and dropped the issue because I needed to have my furniture delivered and there was no telling how long the manager would be out of the office.” -Jon, who moved from the U.S. to Canada
These reviews help others moving abroad make an informed decision about who to hire. If you moved abroad and used a mover, now is your chance to pay it forward and help the global expat community — and anyone who submits a review by March 31, 2013 will be entered for a chance to win USD $150!
