There are several EU member countries with their own residency by investment programmes as Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Latvia, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Malta and Hungary. But the Hungarian programme is considered as the fastest solution and the other jurisdictions require much higher financial contribution.
The applicants of the other Residency by Investment Programmes can either purchase real estate for obtaining the residency permit or invest in the host country’s economy. The amounts of investment or as we can call, the price of the European residency is different in each country, but generally is about a half a million euros. But not in Hungary!
This Central-European country created the “Hungarian Residency Bonds Programme”. If someone wants to live in the EU by participating in this scheme, doesn’t have to buy a property, just lend EUR250.000 to the government in the form of purchasing residency bonds. And they pay back the whole amount after five years.
The greatest advantage of this programme beside the low price is that the new residents do not have to stay in Hungary, only have to maintain there an official address. Meanwhile the residency programmes of the other EU member states oblige the applicants to reside at least 183 days inside the country. But the holder of the Hungarian permanent residency permit can freely travel, live and work in any other EU country. Another important benefit: the programme offers lifelong residency and family members (husband/wife and children under 18) can be included for no additional cost. The process is very fast, the Hungarian residency permit practically can be obtained in one month.
Located in the heart of Europe, Hungary is a country of stable political system and economy. Its good public security and excellent infrastructure makes it an ideal place to stay and establish business. As a result of the global financial crisis the real estate prices are still one of the cheapest in the European Union and the famous Hungarian educational system guarantees the highest level of universities with really acceptable fees or even for free.
The application for a temporary residence permit should be submitted personally to the consular officer of the Hungarian Consulate prior to entry to Hungary.
If all the documents are in order and the respective conditions are fulfilled, the Hungarian Immigration and Citizenship Authority is expected to issue the residency permit in 8 working days.
After six months the Hungarian temporary residence can be converted into permanent residence permit. With this type of document the new residents can obtain the Hungarian citizenship after a normal period of seven years.
